Baptism is the first sacrament we receive. Through our baptisms, we become children of God and members of the Church. Our sins are forgiven.
The Catholic church considers baptism to be such an important and necessary sacrament, that even children are baptized. When a child is baptized, the responsibility for bringing that child up in the faith really rests with the parents. Because of that, the Church asks that parents and godparents attend preparation classes to help them better understand what baptism is all about.
St. Mary’s in Albany and St. Mary’s in Corvallis rotate baptism sessions. Albany has classes one month; Corvallis the next. Parishioners choose whichever time is better for them. We encourage that parents and godparents attend the sessions. However, at a very minimum, at least one parent should attend.
Following the class, parents will have the opportunity to sign up for a baptism time. We do baptisms the second Sunday of the month both during and after the Masses.
We ask that parents call ahead to register for the class that they will attend. There is some paperwork to fill out and a $10 fee for the class. You can call the parish office at 541-926-1449 to register.
I f your child is in second grade or older and not baptized, your child will also need to attend classes. These will most likely be on Sunday mornings. Please contact the office as soon as possible if you have children second grade or older who are not baptized.
Thank you!
