Our Mission Statement

We, St. Mary's Parish, are a people responding to Christ's call to conversion, new life and discipleship with a nurturing Community.

We celebrate this new life in Scripture and the Sacraments of the Roman Catholic tradition.

Our Celebration impels and transforms us to be Spirit filled individuals who can reach out and minister to all people challenging and enabling them to build God's Kingdom of justice and holiness.

Did You Witness An Accident

Last Sunday morning a car was parked eastbound 9th St. in front of Central School close to the intersection of Broadalbin.  If you know anything about this, could you please call our office, 926-1449. Thank you!

Are You a Frequent Flier?

Occasionally our parish staff goes to conferences or in-services out of state. If you have a free ticket that you might be willing to donate to the parish, please give us a call. It would help our parish to save money and be greatly appreciated by the staff. Thank you!

Soup Kitchen Co-Director Sought

Denise Whitmire, co-director of our Soup Kitchen, has resigned. Denise has served the Soup Kitchen admirably and we thank her and wish her well.

We are currently looking for a new co-director. This is  a job share position that averages about 15 – 18 hours every other week. Scheduling is somewhat flexible.

Applicants should have experience in cooking for large groups, volunteer management and some restaurant/ cafeteria experience. For an application, please stop by our parish office.

Thank you.

Christmas  Gifts

St. Mary’s has had a Giving Tree for the past several years. Each year there have been some complications with gifts not being returned on time or families moving away. This year we are encouraging you to take a tag from one of the numerous Giving Trees in our Albany community. We are collecting “winter type” items for the homeless or for needy families. These can include items like hats, gloves, scarves, socks, toiletries, waterless hand sanitizer or wipes, cough drops or vitamin c tablets, tissues etc. You can bring your gift and put them under the Giving Tree in the Gathering Space. We will be collecting these items during December and January. Thank you.

The  Christmas  Wreath  Sales

will be done this year at Tom’s Garden. The same beautiful wreaths are still available; we've just made it easier. Simply buy Tom's Scrip and pick out your wreath and pick it up at your leisure. 20% still comes back to the school when you use Tom’s Garden Scrip.

Office Hours During Christmas Time

Friday, December 22 – Monday, January 1

Office closed

Many of our staff will be working during this time, so please leave a message if you need something. Also, if there is an emergency, please call the parish emergency # at 990-5552. Thank you!

Year End Giving

If you are in the position to make a year end gift to the parish, we would appreciate it. Please remember, if you want your gift to be tax deductible for the 2006 year, we must receive it by Dec. 31, 2006. Thank you!

New  “Breaking  Bread”

The first weekend of Advent (Dec. 2 / 3) we began using a new edition of “Breaking Bread” – our song books. It has the daily Mass Propers in it as well as the readings for the Sunday Masses. Because this edition is so complete, we will not have missalettes available. This is a cost savings for the parish and also helps to keep the church tidier. If you want your own subscription for a missalette, you can contact Oregon Catholic Press at 503-281-1191. The Catholic Daughters also have 2007 missals available in their gift store for $3.50. Thank you.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Eucharistic Adoration will be held the next two Fridays  from noon to 6 PM in the chapel. A sign up sheet has been placed at the chapel door for your convenience.

Questions or to sign up please call Dorothy at 926-4699 or Caroline at 924-9952.

Pray One! Knit One!

The next meeting for the Prayer Shawl Ministry will be December 18 at 9:00 a.m. in the basement of the parish house.  A no-host luncheon outing will follow the meeting.  This will be the last meeting for the month of December.  The Prayer Shawl Ministry wishes to extend our thanks for all of the support this parish offers to this ministry and the continuous support we have received throughout the year.  We look forward to serving our community and parish in the coming year.  Our lives have been blessed

through the creation of these shawls and we are enriched with the many stories we hear from those who have received shawls and the comfort they

provide.  Thank you again for all of your prayers for without you we would not be able to continue our work.
