Liturgical Ministers Are still needed at all Masses. Currently we are signing folks up for the coming year (Sept ’07 through August ’08). Training is provided. We need greeters, Eucharistic ministers, acolytes and cross bearers. Call 926-1449 ext 303 or email stmarys_albany@comcast.net to sign up. Solar Cookers Needed Recently, the Archdiocese of Portland decided to offer direct support to our displaced Sudanese brothers and sisters by purchasing solar cookers for use in the refugee camps. Firewood is a scarce commodity in the refugee camps in Chad, where many Sudanese live. The long trips to gather firewood leave women and children vulnerable to physical and sexual assault by Janjaweed militias as well as migrant bandits in the area. Use of a solar cooker cuts firewood consumption by 40% and thus reduces the frequency of these dangerous trips. For only $30, two solar cookers can be provided to a family of five to seven
This amazing program offers Oregon Catholics an opportunity to be involved in the well-being of Sudanese refugees, and support efforts to ensure that the dignity and safety of Sudanese refugees increases.
Donations to this program should be made out to "American Jewish Committee - Solar Cooker Project" and mailed to the Archdiocese Pastoral Center, 2838 E. Burnside, Portland, OR 97214-1895.
Catechists Needed Our parish’s religious education program is in need of catechists at a variety of grade levels. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your faith with young people. If you would like to find out more, or if you are interested in volunteering, please call Kathy at 926-1449 ext 303 or email stmarys_albany@comcast.net Thank you!
