Our Mission Statement

We, St. Mary's Parish, are a people responding to Christ's call to conversion, new life and discipleship with a nurturing Community.

We celebrate this new life in Scripture and the Sacraments of the Roman Catholic tradition.

Our Celebration impels and transforms us to be Spirit filled individuals who can reach out and minister to all people challenging and enabling them to build God's Kingdom of justice and holiness.

First  Eucharist

Next Sunday, April 29 at the 11 AM Mass will be the First Eucharist Mass for the children of our parish who have been preparing. We ask that you please pray for all these children as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. We also would like to remind you that the 11 AM Mass on April 29 will be very crowded!  Thanks!

Confirmation

The youth who have been preparing for Confirmation will receive that sacrament on Saturday, May 5 at 5 PM here at St. Mary’s. On that night the 5:30 Mass will begin at 5:00 PM instead.

Thank you!

Care  For  Creation

Divorce  Care

For persons who are divorced or divorcing meets on Tuesdays at 7 PM in the Parish House basement. This is a video series/ discussion group. Please spread the word to anyone you know who is divorced or divorcing. Thanks!

The  Sacred  Eucharistic  Heart  of  Jesus

(“Jesus is still with us on this earth…concealed in the Eucharist Sacrament wherein His Sacred Heart is also present.) The next scheduled Friday is April 27 and the NEW hours are from noon – 8:00 PM. A sign-up sheet is at the chapel door for your convenience. Contact Caroline @ 924-9952 or Dorothy @ 926-4699 for more information, thanks. Receiving the Eucharist means adoring Him whom we receive. Only in this way do we become one with Him, and are given, as it were, a fore taste of the beauty of the heavenly liturgy.  The act of adoration outside Mass prolongs and intensifies all that takes place during the liturgical celebration itself. Indeed, only in adoration, can a profound and genuine reception mature. “And it is precisely this personal encounter with the Lord, that then strengthens the social mission contained in the Eucharist, which seeks to breakdown not only the walls that separate the Lord and ourselves, but also and especially the walls that separate us from one another.”

Great  Advertising  Opportunity!!

Men  of  St.  Mary’s

How about meeting once a month for a man’s perspective on being a Catholic male, conservations regarding family, our place in giving back to our community and conversation with one another? Join other men of St. Mary's for a men’s group. Ideas on how a men’s group could serve are welcome. Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 at 6:30 in the chapel.

Pray  One!  Knit  One!

The next meeting for the Prayer Shawl Ministry will be Monday, April 23 at 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. in the basement of the parish house. A no-host lunch outing will follow the meeting. The Prayer Shawl Ministry welcomes Theresa Krake who has joined in efforts of this beautiful ministry. Anyone who would like to know more about the works of this ministry or would like to learn to knit or crochet are welcome. We have willing hands to help you begin on this wondrous journey. Stop by for a visit and have a cup of coffee or tea with us and learn more about the works of this ministry. We are looking for anyone who would like to help support the goals of this ministry through donations of yarn or funds but especially we need your prayers. We have begun the work on shawls for the coming 2008 Easter Vigil when those being baptized will be presented with a white shawl for their baptismal garment. A special fund will be established for this project and you may donate throughout the year. Contact Shirley Holmberg or Kathy Reilly if you would like to help in sponsoring this project.

Shawl for Deacon Gio- a special shawl has been knitted for Deacon Giovanni and will be available for you to add your personal wishes and prayers after each mass the weekend of April 22nd and April 29th. We look forward to the presentation of this shawl to Deacon on the weekend of May 6th.

Deacon  Giovanni

Is serving our parish well this year. It will soon be time for him to move on. His last weekend will be May 5 & 6. At noon on May 6 we will have a special thank you reception for him. We will need some folks to help out with the reception – set up / clean up / making salads & desserts. Please sign up on the Save Yourself a Phone Call sheet in today’s bulletin. Thank you!

“Life  in  the  Spirit”

Began with an Open House last Tuesday.  The seven week program begins this Tuesday, the 24th from 7 to 9:00 PM in the Gathering Space and continues there each week following, ending on June 5th.  The 4th week of the program will be held on Monday, May 14th so please mark your calendars. Come join us, making your participation a gift to yourself as well as a gift to the brothers and sisters of your parish. Find a deeper understanding of your faith in the Word as well. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening.

Do  You  Like  to  Read?

Would you consider reading one of the books in our parish library and writing a short (really very short) summary? We would like to highlight a different book or a video each week. There are a variety of topics from saints to the liturgy or sacraments and Christian living and prayer for children and adults. If you are interested in helping with this, please call Kathy at 926-1449 ext 303.

Prayer

This year, our parish’s catechetical (teaching) focus has been on prayer. We’ve discussed the Lord’s Prayer, the Rosary, prayers of intercession, prayers of petition, the Creed, praying with the Bible and the Stations of the Cross.

Our goal has been twofold: one, to expose parishioners to a variety of Catholic forms of prayer, and two: to help people pray better and grow closer to God. Now we’re asking for your thoughts. Our next issue of the Happenings will focus on prayer and we would like to hear your thoughts.

What does prayer mean to you? What are your experiences with prayer? How do you grow in your prayer life? Just jot down a few sentences on your prayer experiences (anonymously or with your name) and we will try to share some of them in our next Happenings.

You can put your thoughts in the collection, email us at: stmarys_albany@comcast.net or bring them to the office. We are interested in hearing from adults and children, families, couples and singles. Thanks for helping us out.
